The Lantern - Esbjerg Maritime Center is winning architecture awards one after another!
The maritime center has recently won a total of three architecture awards. First, the construction was celebrated in Cologne with the international IOC IPC IAKS Architecture Prize as the winner in the category of "Specialized facilities for sports, leisure, and recreation." Next, it won the Danish Wood Award 2023 for roundbreaking architecture and the use of wood in the construction. Finally, the construction - and the entire team behind it - won "Building of the Year" at the Building Awards in Denmark.
About the project, the architects write: The Maritime Center at Esbjerg harbor puts the community in focus. With space for water sports clubs, boat storage, training facilities, workshops, and social functions, the center is a new focal point for maritime community life. The circular, open design of the building invites visitors from all angles and creates an accessible and inclusive structure.

Earlier this year, the new IKEA city store by @dorte_mandrup opened in Copenhagen.
Departing from the classic blue and yellow IKEA, the Copenhagen city store its adapted its urban context and the way Copenhageners live in and use the city. Twenty meters above the street, a green rooftop garden offers a respite from the bustle in an otherwise hectic junction near the main train station, the historic Meatpacking district, and the inner-city harbour.
The landscape design is crafted by @1til1_landskab and consists exclusively of native tress, shrubs, and grasses matching the conditions of the wind, sun, and shade.

Light House in Aarhus by @3xnarchitects wins Best Tall Building 100-199 Metres and an Award of Excellence for Best Tall Building Europe at this year’s Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) awards!
This year’s CTBUH conference, “Humanizing High Density” centred around the premise that “high-density urbanization can support healthy living, working, and civic and social engagement.”
About the project, the architects writes: openness, vividness and multiplicity characterize the Lighthouse development, combining a high-rise structure with groups of terraced houses to foster community and interaction. Adding a sun-lit seaside promenade with cafés, shops, and a large square for leisure activities, the masterplan emphasizes the interaction between private, semi-public and public areas.

With the architectural transformation of Hafnia Hallen, the sports hall has become an active player in Copenhagen’s cityscape. The architecture introduces new vertical glass facades that offer clear views into the vibrant life within the hall. The window sections allow natural light to flood the spacious hall, and skylights contribute to ample daylight in the large interior space. The light and open views establish a connection between the activities inside the hall and the surrounding sports areas. In this way, users experience a sense of the day’s progression as the light changes throughout the day.

Great Northern Clubhouse & Hotel by @eplusnarkitektur, is situated in the city of Kerteminde between the rolling countryside of the northeastern part of the Danish island, Funen. The project Great Northern covers a clubhouse and hotel apartments and is created based on the connection between the landscape and the design of the golf course. The Swan is the first circular kindergarten in the world. It was built on the site of a former school using repurposed materials from the previous buildings. This goal-oriented and lean process materialized in saving 6.278 metric tons of materials and 177.668 kilos of CO2. But more importantly, the new tender process for sustainable demolition has become industry standard and will save enormous resources in the future.

This Friday, Copenhagen’s New Opera Park opens! 🌱designed by @cobearchitects
Located in the heart of Copenhagen’s harbor, the park is a green oasis in middle of the dense city center. Designed for recreation and contemplation, visitors are able to experience trees, plants and flowers from around the world, carefully selected for their colorful variation throughout the year. The park has been constructed by the Opera Park Foundation through a donation from https://A.P. Moller Foundation.
